“bolo bolo”

Here’s the track “bolo bolo” from the movie ‘Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein’. Picturised – as you guys probably already know – on R. Madhavan. Music composed by Harris Jayaraj … lyrics by Sameer and sung by one of my absolute favorites – Shaan. One of the nice things about this song is that it’s tempo changes at different parts. For instance when the chorus sings “tujhe ishq ho gaya yaara .. mara gaya tu bechara” the tempo goes a bit upbeat and then when the line is done with it comes back to the slow flow. This variation gives the song a lively nature. Orchestration-wise the track is very simple and minimalistic. No complications. No overwhelming effects. Just plain simple flow and a couple of instruments chipping in. I had begun making the song long ago but it had remained incomplete. I owe the completion of the song to a friend who requested it.

This is the first song in which I have made use of the “slap guitar”. For those who do now know .. “slap guitar” is a basically an electric guitar played in a style different than the traditional method. In this method the strings are plucked so hard that they “slap” against the finger board when they are released creating the typical sound. You will hear it in your right ear at the part where Shaan sings “dil mera dil koi leke gaya”. The original song does not have the slap guitar but I took a trial and it sounded nice. For the voice of Shaan I have used an electronic piano with heavy reverb and a very light tremolo. A flute cuts in at some points. Altogether I have stuck to the original as far as possible and there are very few changes. Because this song is really cute just the way it is! Enjoy!
