“woh sikandar hi”

Posted: September 18, 2011 in SilkenSounds

i have never been more proud of my work! today .. people .. i add to my collection the gem of all songs .. “wo sikander hi”. let me take a moment here and talk about the musical-duo that is behind the creation of this song : jatin-lalit. as once mentioned by lalit in a show that i was lucky to attend myself .. the one man that has inspired them most in their musical career is r. d. burman. their music reflects the same innovation and brilliance that panchamda’s does. their compositions from years ago stun us to this date. i’ve always wanted to add this one song of theirs to my collection – but there were many challenges to that. to begin with .. jatin-lalit have the knack of using multiple rhythms in a single song. most of the music directors keep the rhythm for a song absolutely same right till the end. but jatin-lalit are known to make variations right through it. in my opinion that keeps the freshness meter of the song high till the end. like in an action movie where the audience is on the edge of their seats dying to know what is to come next .. their music keeps their audience anticipating. from all the songs of the middle ages that we remember today .. most are composed by this pair of talented musicians. as they say .. it takes two to tango!

about this song .. i remember having started the song with a lot of enthusiasm. way more than what – i am ashamed to say – was left at the end! but you know what? the feeling i had on completing it was all worth it. i was literally tired of making newer and newer rhythms and they kept changing! i remember atleast 7 different ones that i created. wow! 7 rhythms in a single song! no kidding! you will hear more than 14 percussion instruments .. including 2 kinds of drums .. 3 snares .. 4 hats .. a congo ..a bongo and other cymbals that are used at different time of the songs. i had to scroll through a score of instruments every time i wanted to make any change to any pattern! by the end i was getting scared of making any changes! the signature of this song is the drum solo at the beginning. over these years we have heard this song so many times that every ear that will hear it is highly tuned to the original song. so i had to make sure the start was fine. and it is! give it a try.

in the movie this song is intended to drill inspiration. the lyrics alone are enough to do that .. but the music compliments the lyrics in every way. i have tried to capture the electrifying inspiration. without that this song would hardly appeal to the listener.
at the end .. all i want to say is this : if this one succeeds in making it to your liking .. it would be many nights hard work paid off really well! thanks for reading this and for listening to the song!

Just one problem with this song… its a copy

    • Mitesh says:

that is correct. i have even mentioned the original composers in the blog-post. this is just an instrumental rendition.

      • abc says:

Your rendition is really good its not the copy.

The copy is by Jatin Lalit. Woh Sikandar is a ripoff that Jatin Lalit should be ashamed of. Unlike you they do not mention the source.

      • Mitesh says:

oh .. i was not aware this was a copy .. well as they say .. one never committed the crime if one was never caught!
